The Journey Continues - Dancing in the Street

Studio Updates

I’m late in posting my studio updates for you (again). I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of October and I have not been meeting my goal to post weekly. My original plans to head South October 24th were circumvented by an unexpected death and we’re holding over to attend the service. We’ll end up getting to Arizona about 10 days later than planned.

I have been busy painting but spent a lot of time on the business end of art – website creations, inventory tracking, and all the learning curve that comes with the territory.

Dancing in the Streets Series

I sold the first painting in the series that I titled "Urban Tango." The new owner seemed happy and I'm glad to be part of her art collection. Although the original is sold, prints are available on my online store.

A painting of an urban street scene being held by the buyer and the artist.

I started another I'm calling "Flatiron Jitterbug." As usual, I started with a wash of acryic paint on canvas, followed by a rough charcoal sketch that I seal with a Workable Fixative.

The I added dark transparent colors for the sky.

I decided to keep with the theme of piano keys as the sidewalk. These I did with collage and it addes an interesting but challenging texture.

I was initially going to take this canvas on the road with me and work on it wile traveling. As it turns out the winery that has been showing my painting for the last few months wanted to hang this one if I could finish it before I left.

I added some background buildings using collage techniques and reworked the paino keys so they were all facing in the right direction.

I added the windows, as best I can as they are quite challenge. Then, the painting seemed to need a moon, so I added that as well. Do you like it?

The original is hanging at Plumb Cellars, but prints are available.

Thank you all for keeping with me during this journey. Losing so many people this past year gives me a sense of urgency to paint as much as I can while I still can.
